eBooks: Guide to Finding and Downloading

Step-by-step instructions for finding and downloading library ebooks onto computers and mobile devices.

Download ProQuest eBooks to Computer

To download an Ebook Central e-book to your PC/Mac/laptop:

  1. Install the free Adobe Digital Editions reader from http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html on your computer.
  2. Find the eBook Central database on Bailey Library’s website, https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/washtenaw-ebooks.
  3. Search for an e-book and click Full Download.
  4. Follow screen instructions to log in with your WCC netID and password, and click full download.
  5. Choose Laptop/Desktop.
  6. Download your book and Save the file.
  7. Open Adobe Digital Editions. Click File & Add to Library. Then open the ebook file as Adobe Content Server Message from your computer’s Downloads folder.
  8. Read the e-book on the Adobe Digital Editions reader on your computer.

Download EBSCO eBooks to Computer

Basic steps for checking out and downloading a book to your computer.

  1. Search the library catalog or EBSCO eBooks and locate a book you want to check out.
  2. Click on the PDF Full Text and/or EPUB Full Text link to pull up the book.  
  3. Click on the eBook's Download link. 
  4. You will see the message:
    "Please sign in to your My EBSCOhost account to check availability and download" if you are not already signed in with your MyEBSCOhost account.
    • To Create an MyEBSCOhost Account: Complete a short form to choose your personal username and password.  Remember this login information; you will need it to download eBooks.
  5. You will see a pop-up box asking you to "Checkout & Download" the title you selected.  
    • Adobe Digital Editions: You will need to have or install the free Adobe Digital Editions software to download a book to your computer.  
    • Adobe ID: You may need to create an Adobe ID if you do not already have one. 
  6. You will see a pop-up box with the message "This eBook was checked out successfully." 
  7. You will see a dialog box asking if you want to "Open with Adobe Digital Edition" or "Save File".  If you choose "Open with", you will bring up the book in Adobe Digital Editions. If you select "Save File", the file will be saved to your computer. You can read it later.
  8. Find the Adobe Digital Editions program on your computer.  Open the program to read the book you checked out.
  9. eBooks are only available for a limited checkout period.
