Video: Quick Tips with Citing Sources Using Database Cite Tools

Citing Sources APA Style

Paraphrasing: The Basics from APA Style

How do I find a citation from a database using the cite tool?

The information you need to create a citation is in each database listing. You will find APA citations with the articles you retrieve in the WCC databases.

Many databases, such as our more popular ones PRIMO Smart Search, Gale, and EBSCO, offer tools to help you write a citation. The tool can usually be found on the page with detailed information about the article. Clicking on the article's title from the search results page will typically bring up this detailed information.

Important note

Even though a tool is available to help create a citation, you must check the information against the rules for citation formatting and correct any errors found in the citation.

The citations created by the cite tool are pulled directly from the information the journal publisher has provided about the article, and publishers don’t necessarily send information in a way that’s compatible with APA or other citation formats. For example, it’s not uncommon to see the author's name(s) in the wrong order or to see words in all caps, or missing information such as page numbers and DOI number.

PRIMO Smart Search

In PRIMO Smart Search, the citation tool can be found beneath the book or article title in the middle portion of the screen.
