The information you need to create a citation is in each database listing.
Many databases, such as our more popular ones PRIMO Smart Search, Gale, and EBSCO, offer tools to help you write a citation. The tool can usually be found on the page with detailed information about the article. Clicking on the article's title from the search results page will typically bring up this detailed information.
Important note
Even though a tool is available to help create a citation, you must check the information against the rules for citation formatting and correct any errors found in the citation. Use this Research Guide MLA and APA tabs to help cite a source for your references page.
The citations created by the cite tool are pulled directly from the information the journal publisher has provided about the article, and publishers don’t necessarily send information in a way that’s compatible with APA or other citation formats. For example, it’s not uncommon to see the author's name(s) in the wrong order or to see words in all caps, or missing information such as page numbers and DOI number.
In PRIMO Smart Search, the citation tool can be found beneath the book or article title in the middle portion of the screen.
In Gale, you'll find the Cite icon to the right of the article's title on the detailed information page top right corner.
In EBSCO, the cite tool can be found above the image of the article in the right portion of the screen.
In ProQuest, you'll find the Cite icon to the right of the article's title on the detailed information page.
In Ebook Central, the cite tool can be found beneath the image of the textbook in the left portion of the screen.
