Why provide access to this source?

When a student begins to brainstorm an idea for a research topic, it is a good idea to a solid working knowledge about a topic. Consulting a subject specific encyclopedia will provide an introduction to a topic. The main use of an encyclopedia is to provide a broad overview of a chosen subject or topic. An encyclopedia can introduce language specific to the research process. This can provide a student with the appropriate language and terminology to help them identify keywords and design a research question.

This is a direct link to the Gale Virtual Reference Library with access to over 200 subject specific encyclopedias. These are the same encyclopedias that are available at the WCC Library in print and other additional titles, but are made available in an electronic format for students to access anytime anywhere.

Students can print, download and email the articles.

Students are required to login from off campus with WCC NetID and password.
