Selection for the Foundation awards are based on academic excellence and financial need combined. Scholarships also are awarded by the information they provide on their application and the student’s transcript. To be eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited surgical technology program and eligible to sit for the NB STSA national surgical technologist certifying examination.
The 2014 Sandra Edwards, CST, NB STSA Scholarship Program is designed to assist students in pursuing their education via NB STSA recognized surgical technology and surgical first assisting programs.

"Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting allows the use of the title “Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).” Certification typically requires completing an accredited formal education program or military training program and passing an exam."
"Certification through the National Center for Competency Testing allows the use of the title “Tech in Surgery-Certified (NCCT).” An applicant must pass an exam and have taken one of several routes to be eligible. These routes include formal education, military training, or work experience, among others."
