Canvas and Library Integration

A guide designed for instructors to add direct links to WCC Library electronic resources and services into the Canvas course site.

What is a Share Link?

A Share link is a URL that allows users to link directly to an online article, document, book, etc. and allows students to access the Washtenaw Community College Library's electronic subscriptions.

  • Persistent links are also known as durable links, stable links, get links, or permalinks.
  • Persistent links can be placed within Canvas, course syllabi, and reading lists.

NOTE:

  • The URL in the database address bar is NOT a persistent link. Do NOT use the URL link to share.
  • Use persistent links to share an article or e-book.

Why should I use a Share link?

  • The URL in your address bar is NOT a persistent link.
  • Instead, look on the right side of the article's citation page for the chain icon labeled Share. Click it to make the persistent link appear.

  • Persistent links help databases keep track of how often and how many resources are downloaded. This helps librarians know what is important to you.
  • You can link to a resource and remain copyright compliant. Failure to follow copyright laws can result in fines for the department and the college.
