Canvas and Library Integration

A guide designed for instructors to add direct links to WCC Library electronic resources and services into the Canvas course site.

Using Streaming Video from Kanopy

To begin, access Kanopy for the library's Database list on the library homepage. You will be prompted to log in with your NetID and password. Please note: you can not currently show Kanopy videos through Zoom. Titles can only be watched directly through the Kanopy platform.

Playlist and Clips in Kanopy

To create custom playlists:

  1. After logging into Kanopy from WCC Library's Database, log in (or create) your free personal Kanopy account (see above).
  2. Click My Lists at the top of any Kanopy page.
  3. Click the Custom Playlists tab, then Create New Playlist.
  4. Give your playlist a name and click Create New Playlist.

To add films to a custom playlist:

  1. Open a film's details page.
  2. Scroll down and select the Playlists tab.
  3. Click the "+" button next to your custom playlist.
  4. From here, you can:
    • Select the trash can icon next to a film or clip to delete it from your playlist.
    • Select the pencil icon to create or edit a clip from a film, then select Save Changes.

To create a film clip:

  1. After logging into Kanopy from WCC Library's Database, log in (or create) your free personal Kanopy account (see above).
  2. Go to the "Edit Clip" page for a film in a custom playlist (My Lists > Custom Playlists > Edit > Edit Clip).
  3. Optionally, edit your clip title and add notes for your clip.
  4. Use one of these methods to create your clip:
    • Press Play on the film at the bottom of the page. Drag the scrubbers (two gray rectangles on the film's timeline) to the start (left scrubber) and end (right scrubber) points for the clip.
    • Type timestamps for your clip in the "Start time" and "End time" fields.
  5. Click Save Changes to save your clip.

  1. Search for a film
  2. Click on the title
  3. Click on Share tab
  4. Click 'Copy Link' to either link or embed code
  5. Paste this URL into a syllabus, reading list, email, Canvas or document of your choice!
